SIP is crafting a service ecosystem for “new citizens”, namely non-local workers engaged in new forms of employment such as delivery workers and couriers, appreciating their services that bring locals great convenience. The latter, in return, are willing to do their bit in promoting better development of local communities.
The service center at the parking lot south of Jiuguang Department Store is the flagship service facility in Jinji Lake Sub-district for the groups mentioned above. The 480-square-meter space consists of a special parking shed for these workers, and an indoor part for a temporary break from work, which is equipped with charging facilities, first-aid kits, drinking water, readings and 9:00am-to-8:00pm consulting services and help upon demand.
So far, a three-tier service system has been created in SIP, with a number of 15-minute service circles available for delivery workers across the area. The service station in Wencuilu Community even has a shower cubicle.
The canteen of Wenhuiyuan Community in Xietang Sub-district provides a variety of nutritional set meals along with seasonal fruit for delivery workers, and Shengpu Sub-district organized a two-week summer vacation camp for children of “new citizens”, offering them chances to learn new knowledge and experience local culture.
The delivery workers are grateful for these services, and therefore would like to do something for the locals, like cleaning the service stations, helping detect problems in community management during their work, and offering suggestions for grassroots governance.
