In recent years, SIP Science and Technology Innovation Committee has enhanced efforts to promote collaboration of authorities, higher education institutions, research institutes and enterprises in developing R&D organizations for the purpose of advancing technologies and accelerating their commercialization.

MetaX, a supplier of full-stack GPU chips and solutions for heterogeneous computing, went public on the STAR Market of the Shanghai Stock Exchange in late 2025. The company is one of 16 projects incubated by a research institute jointly developed by SIP and the Institute of Microelectronics of the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) with a specially established fund. The institute has thus far introduced and incubated over 90 businesses, with 86 invention patents applied (20 granted).

The Suzhou Institute of Artificial Intelligence of Shanghai Jiao Tong University (SJTU), jointly developed by SIP Administrative Committee and SJTU in 2017, is helping expand AI application in various industrial sectors in SIP based on SJTU’s research and education resources and influence. A number of companies founded by SJTU alumni and those in SIP have established partnerships.

SIP and the Institute of Computing Technology at CAS have jointly built an intelligent computing technology research institute which, in addition to research and technological services, has incubated a number of businesses engaged in related fields.

The R&D organizations under the collaboration mechanism serve as both “liaison stations” for partnering and “boosters” for sci-tech and industrial innovation. SIP aims to optimize its management and services for such organizations in the future to give full play to their role in advancing sci-tech and industrial development.
